John David Washington, star of BLACKkKLANSMAN, sits down with BlackTree TV’s Jaleesa Lashay to discuss the significance of Ron Stallworth’s story and his experiences on BLACKkKLANSMAN.
Washington describes seeing Ron Stallworth’s Ku Klux Klan membership card at the table read for the film. “He passed out his membership card…He still has it.”
In discussing the comedic elements in the film and his co-star Adam Driver, Washington states, “We weren’t trying to go for comedy…There’s just these natural moments between us that were so organic and I think it was a result of trust. He’s a fantastic actor.”
Washington describes director Spike Lee as being a master at recognizing energy and momentum and having the wisdom not to disrupt that process.
